Beta Squad Terms
These terms explain how the Compass Beta Squad works, how we choose it, and what "free lifetime access to the Compass Pro Plan" means. The Beta Squad is run by Starlight Tech Limited, the company behind Compass.
1. What the Beta Squad Is
The Beta Squad is a small group of small-business owners who get early access to Compass before launch, use it, and help us shape it. We want Compass to be built for small-business owners, by small-business owners, and the Beta Squad is how we keep it that way.
2. Applying
You apply by joining the waiting list and ticking the Beta Squad box. Ticking the box is an application, not a guarantee of a place.
Places are limited. We choose the squad to cover a varied spread of small businesses across different locations, trades and sectors, and stages of growth. Selection is at Starlight Tech Limited's discretion, and we are not able to give individual reasons for who we do or do not select. If you are selected, we contact you using the details you gave us. If you are not selected, you stay on the waiting list and we email you when Compass opens, where you have consented to hear from us.
3. What Selected Members Get
If you are accepted into the Beta Squad, you get free access to the Compass Pro Plan. Here is exactly what that commits us to.
- "Free" means there is no subscription charge for your Compass Pro Plan for as long as the arrangement in these terms lasts.
- "Lifetime" means for as long as Compass continues to offer the Pro Plan and you keep an active Compass account in good standing. It does not mean your personal lifetime, and it cannot outlast the Compass Pro Plan or the Compass product itself.
- Your free access is to the Compass Pro Plan as it exists from time to time. The features in the Pro Plan may change as we develop the product. We may change or discontinue the Pro Plan, or the Beta Squad programme, on reasonable notice.
- Your place is personal to you and your business, non-transferable, and has no cash value. It cannot be sold, gifted, or moved to another person or business.
- Your use of Compass is subject to our Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy, the same as any other user.
4. When Free Access Can End
Your free Pro access can end if:
- you close your Compass account, or it becomes inactive in line with our Terms;
- you breach the Acceptable Use Policy or the Terms of Service, and we may withdraw Beta Squad access for a serious or repeated breach; or
- we discontinue the Compass Pro Plan or the Compass product, in which case free access ends when the plan or product does, on reasonable notice.
We do not require you to give a set amount of feedback to keep your place. We hope you will help us shape Compass, and that is the point of the squad, but your free Pro access does not depend on a feedback quota.
5. Your Data
We handle the details you give us when you apply in line with our Privacy Notice. In short, we use them to consider your application, to run the Beta Squad if you are selected, and to tell you when Compass opens. You can ask us to delete your details at any time, subject to the records we are required to keep.
6. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms as the Beta Squad develops. If we make a material change, we tell selected members by email. The current version is always at this page, and the change log sits at the bottom.
7. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
