AI Use and Automated Decisions Notice
This notice explains how Compass uses AI, what the limits of those AI outputs are, and what rights you have under UK GDPR Article 22 in relation to automated decisions. It complements the Privacy Notice and the Terms of Service.
1. You Are Interacting with an AI
Compass is an AI marketing coach. Every output you see in Compass, including your 90 Day Growth Plan, daily tasks, marketing strategy, brand suggestions, and any text or imagery the product generates, is produced by AI.
This satisfies the transparency obligation in Article 50 of the EU AI Act for limited-risk AI systems. We apply it to all users regardless of where you live.
2. The AI Providers We Use
At launch, Compass uses one AI provider:
- Anthropic, PBC, for AI reasoning and content generation (the Claude API).
We are building creative-media features (image, voice, and video generation) that are not part of the launch service. When those features go live they will use additional providers, currently planned as OpenAI (additional or fallback inference), Fal AI (image generation), ElevenLabs (voice), and Runway (video). We are not sharing any data with those providers today. Each one is added to the Sub-processor List, with notice, only when the feature that uses it goes live. The providers in use and the data each one receives are in Schedule 1 of our Data Processing Agreement and summarised on the Sub-processor List.
3. What the AI Does
Compass uses AI to:
- generate your 90 Day Growth Plan based on the answers you give during onboarding;
- generate your Marketing Strategy across audiences, channels, positioning, and content;
- generate daily coaching tasks tailored to your business stage and the data your connectors return;
- cluster and summarise data from your connected platforms (analytics, reviews, replies, search trends); and
- draft content (emails, social posts, landing copy, brand voice samples) on your request.
4. What the AI Does Not Do
Compass does not:
- make legal, financial, medical, or other regulated professional decisions for you;
- trade securities, transfer money, or take any action that moves money on your behalf;
- hire, fire, or evaluate any human worker on your behalf; or
- make any decision about you that produces legal effects or significantly affects you in the sense of UK GDPR Article 22(1). All outputs are advisory and require your judgement before any action is taken.
5. The Limits of AI Outputs
AI models can be wrong. They can produce facts that sound plausible but are not. They can miss context. They can repeat biases that exist in their training data. We use multiple guardrails to reduce these risks but we cannot remove them.
Treat every Compass output as a starting point that needs your judgement. Check facts before acting. For significant decisions involving money, people, or legal exposure, get a human second opinion. The Terms of Service at clause 8 sets out the same point in contract terms.
6. UK GDPR Article 22 Rights
You have the right under UK GDPR Article 22 not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing that produces legal effects or similarly significantly affects you. Compass is designed so that no output crosses that threshold. Every output is advisory and you decide whether and how to act on it.
If you ever feel that a Compass output has been treated as a final decision against you, email privacy@starlighttech.ai and we will investigate.
7. Human Oversight
Starlight Tech Limited reviews material AI outputs that go to external parties under its internal AI Persona Disclosure Policy. Compass outputs that go to you are produced by the product and are reviewable by you before you act on them.
8. AI Training Opt-Out
We do not use your personal data, your inputs, or your plan outputs to train any AI model, whether owned by us or operated by our sub-processors. AI training is opt-out by default. If we ever introduce a feature that lets you opt in to share anonymised content for product improvement, that opt-in will be granular, reversible, and clearly labelled at the point of choice.
9. Special Category Content
Compass is not intended to process special category data (health, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, biometrics, sexual orientation, racial or ethnic origin). Please do not enter such information. If special category content reaches Compass through a connector (for example, a customer mentions a health condition in a review or reply), we filter and handle it under the special-category safeguards in Schedule 2 of our Data Processing Agreement.
10. Content Provenance
When the creative-media features we are building go live and Compass generates images, voice clips, or video, the output is labelled as AI-generated where the medium and the platform allow. We do not produce deepfake or face-swap content for any purpose.
11. Reporting AI Problems
If a Compass output is harmful, factually wrong in a serious way, or reads as biased, email feedback@starlighttech.ai with the example. We investigate and respond within 14 days.
12. Contact
For Article 22 enquiries or other AI-related concerns, email privacy@starlighttech.ai.
