Refund and Cancellation Policy
This policy sets out your rights to cancel a Compass subscription and to claim a refund, both under UK consumer law and under our own commercial commitments.
1. The 14-Day Cooling-Off Right
If you are a consumer (using Compass for personal, non-business purposes) and you buy a Compass subscription, you have a statutory right under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 to cancel within 14 days of subscribing for any reason, with a full refund.
There is one important condition. If you ask us to start the service immediately (which is the default when you click Subscribe) and you use the service during the cooling-off period, the refund is reduced in proportion to the part of the service you have already used. If you have used the service substantially during those 14 days, the refund may be nil. We make this clear at checkout.
To exercise the cooling-off right, email cancel@starlighttech.ai within 14 days of subscribing with your account email and a short note saying you want to cancel. We confirm the cancellation and process the refund within 14 days of the cancellation.
2. Cancelling at Any Other Time
You can cancel any time in Settings. Cancellation ends the subscription at the end of the paid period in which you cancel. You can keep using Compass for the remainder of that paid period. We do not pro-rate refunds for the part-used period at cancellation, except in the circumstances at sections 3 and 4 below.
3. Refunds for Service Failures (Consumer Rights Act 2015)
If a digital service we supply is not of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, or as described, you have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (Chapter 3 of Part 1, sections 33 to 47) to:
- a repair or re-performance of the service; or
- a price reduction (which may be a full refund); or
- the right to receive a refund where a repair or re-performance is impossible or has not been carried out within a reasonable time.
To claim under this section, email cancel@starlighttech.ai setting out the problem. We respond within 7 days with the remedy we propose. If we cannot agree, you may use the Complaints Policy or take the matter further as set out at section 6.
4. Refunds Linked to Specific Commitments
The following commitments produce a refund in the situations described:
| Situation | Refund |
|---|---|
| We make a material change to the Terms of Service that disadvantages you, you do not accept it, and you cancel before the change takes effect | Pro-rata refund of the unused part of the then-current paid period |
| We discontinue a Founding tier feature that is, in our reasonable judgement, a material feature of the Founding tier, and you elect to cancel rather than accept the alternative | Pro-rata refund of the unused part of the then-current paid period |
| A Corporate Event happens and the acquirer or successor declines to honour the Founding price-lock under the softer fallback (if applied) | Pro-rata refund of the unused part of the then-current paid period |
| We end your subscription for any reason other than your material breach | Pro-rata refund of the unused part of the then-current paid period |
5. How Refunds Are Paid
Refunds are made to the original payment method, in the original currency of the transaction. They typically arrive within 5 working days of confirmation but may take longer depending on your card issuer or bank.
6. Disputes and Onward Routes
If you are unhappy with a refund decision:
- Email cancel@starlighttech.ai and set out the position.
- If we cannot resolve it, the Complaints Policy sets out our escalation route.
- If you remain unhappy, you may contact one of the following: - Citizens Advice consumer service (consumer disputes): 0808 223 1133 or https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/ - Information Commissioner's Office (where data protection is involved): https://ico.org.uk/
Nothing in this policy limits your statutory rights as a consumer.
